A High-Performance Home for University of New Haven Athletics
At the Peterson Performance Center, Milestone Construction Services transformed 13,600 square feet of unfinished space into a modern operations hub for the University of New Haven’s Athletics Department.
The project included construction of coach offices, football offices and meeting suites, multi-purpose collaboration spaces, a kitchenette, restrooms, and support areas. Designed by Apicella + Bunton Architects with MEP/FP engineering by Centek Engineering, the build required precise coordination across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, glazing, millwork, acoustical ceiling systems, and specialty finishes — all integrated within an existing structure.
Working within an occupied and fully operational facility presented a key challenge. With active programming continuing on lower levels, Milestone implemented detailed phasing plans, strategically coordinated shutdowns, and maintained consistent communication with university stakeholders to minimize disruption.
Safety remained the top priority throughout construction. “First and foremost, their leadership team committed to providing a safe work site, which is the most important piece of the puzzle for our institution,” said Robert Gerbert, Jr., PE, CEM, Executive Director of Program Management & Capital Projects.
To maintain schedule and strengthen quality control, Milestone self-performed drywall and carpentry — streamlining installation and reinforcing field oversight. Early identification of long-lead materials and disciplined procurement tracking further supported the project’s accelerated timeline.
“The project could not have gone smoother,” Gerbert added. “Milestone delivered the project on time and on budget.”
The completed third-floor fit-out enhances day-to-day athletic operations while providing flexible, technology-enabled spaces that support recruitment, collaboration, and long-term program growth — reinforcing the University of New Haven’s continued investment in its athletics infrastructure and long-term program excellence.
